It's All Go in Polranny!

The pantry and the shower behind the kitchen have been demolished and are being replaced with an extension with the latest, state-of-the-art amenities. Fortunately for our guests there is still the bathroom upstairs, which is also the best place for watching the local wildlife.

After a slow start due to excessive use of steel in the ancient concrete roof and the trouble that caused to the demolition crew, work is progressing steadely. The new extention stands and plastering goes ahead.
The old Pantry will be transformed into a real Dutch 'Bijkeuken'. A 'Bijkeuken' is a kitchen annex: an extended scullery. Where I grew up the farmers used to put a big zink bath in the middle of the 'Bijkeuken' on Saturdays for the whole family to bath in. However our 'Bijkeuken' will have all 'mod cons'.

The work is being done by a crew of three older men. Specialized work is taken on by others. The block laying was done by two happily gay young men and the plastering is done by the son of one of the crew. This young man will shortly quit the construction business and go back to school. It seems to be the trend everywhere: when there is no work the young return to the study books. Good for them!
